Don’t be a dill!

We lived for a while in a 1950’s style house.

This was a funky place with high ceilings and big airy rooms.

We were able to experiment and play when we decorated.

There were no poking whining estate agents any where.

A friendly owner and put the rent in an envelope in his letter box each Friday.

I had just begun teaching, thirty four students with 28 nationalities between them.

There was barely time to breathe!

Our rent was cheap because we had a railway line in our backyard.

It was a stress reliever for me! How so?

When a train went past I yelled, screamed and jumped up and down!

On the weekend it was a different situation. Along the sides of the tracks the herb Dill grew, in a good season in great profusion.

Families would arrive and ask if they could collect the dill.

I loved hearing the chat and the laughter as the entire family quickly collected as much as they could stuff into their car boots.

And here I am many years later with some dill in the garden. ( its a pretty grower which can bolt to seed quickly here in Qld, A few sprigs with fish is delish)

Utile next time
